People show up at the little grocery tents to pick up the Scottish delights that are so difficult to find around here throughout the rest of the year.
Some of the foods don't surprise me in the least, such as the canned haggis (and vegetarian haggis), shortbread cookies, marmite, and Irn-Bru (like orange soda but a little less sweet).
Some things just leave me shaking my head.
I don't do canned peas to start with, "mushy" canned peas is just a little too much.
Salad cream - looks like straight miracle whip.
and of course, no meal is complete without eating spotted dick (surely there's a pill for that).
UPDATE: We went grocery shopping today and found the salad cream (which still sounds to me like something you would put in your hair) and the spotted dick at our store. Who knew? At least we've been spared the mushy peas. I'm sure you're all relieved to know you can get spotted dick in Seattle.

Spotted Dick? Too funny ;)
Oh, they're soooooo funny across the pond, aren't they? I can think of something worse to eat than Haggis, though--have you ever tried Lutefisk, that "great" Norwegian delicacy? My MIL serves it for every Xmas dinner. Can you say disgusting?
Bawww ha hahaa Funny Stuff. I don't think I could shop with out cracking up the whole time.
You should have a contest to see who can come up with the best recipe using mushy peas, salad cream, and spotted dick. :)
I have always wanted to try haggis, but never quite had the guts. Mushy peas, gross.
One of my favorite shows is No Reservations staring Tony Bordain. When he was across the pond had the infamous spotted dick. He said it wasn't that bad. I don't know. To me it sounds like he needs some ointment to clear up that problem.
To me, haggis tastes like meatloaf, made with oats instead of breadcrumbs.
I love No Reservations - the show is endlessly fascinating
I still say we should have put the "spotted dick" under a kilt.
Never have heard of any of these!
Love your blog, love coffee as well. And I have to say that I drink way too much Too!
I looove lutefisk... And I'm disappointed that the FDA will not allow the resale sheep lungs for consumption... So much for traditional haggis.
I'm sure you can get it from San Fran if not from Seattle!! HAHAHAH...
I think it's even worse that it's sponge..

Saw the Spotted Dick, Bird's custard and mushy peas, mm now I am hungry!
You can keep the Marmite though.
Funny! Not appetizing...but funny!

I, um, well, okay.
I am very relieved that found this stuff. I didn't know it came in patterns.
