"Enough with the lips moving and the sound coming out"

Or, what my husband said to his mother-in-law.

Before you gasp in horror (or secretly cheer) they were just joking around. It made me gasp, but for a different reason. That was just the sort of thing my dad would say. I could see him sitting there with a full on belly laugh, his feet sticking straight out in front of him (he always stuck his feet straight out when he belly laughed), if he heard my husband say that. He would have loved that line, and he would have filed it away in the back of his brain for future reference looking for a really good opportunity to whip it out and use it.

I miss my dad, but I'm struck by how similar he was to my husband.

What about you? Do you find similarities between your significant other and one of your parents?

For most kids the concept of marriage and relationship is based on what they saw and experienced from their parents.

If the parents had a good happy marriage life, it inspires the kids. In this case it is very common one ends up picking a spouse who has lots of similarities to the mother or father.

I miss my father-in-law, Jack, for his dry humor and uncanny ability for detecting Drinks Time.

Yes, G&T for the house.

He told a good story and I've tried to honor that.

Eeek! No!! I tried to find an apple from an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT tree. . . waaay across the country from what I was used to!

Still, it does amaze me when my dad can call and talk longer with my hubby than he talks to me. Hmmmm.

@aaron - I really think there's a lot of truth to that, especially when the kids come from happy marriages.

@bill - there's just something about a good story teller isn't there. and most of the good story tellers I've known were good at detecting drinks time as well. :)

@mama - to make matters worse (and probably the last thing you want to hear) you are not entirely unlike your mother-in-law. at the very least, you both have good taste in men.

I just finished making 4 PBJs (for my b-day hunting trip) on homemade bread with homemade jelly and Adam's peanut butter... Of course I'm also taking a can of SPAM, so I must not be too unlike my Dad.

My husband and father have a lot in common, but I didn't realize it until 10+ years into our relationship. Both are good guys who wish they had the courage to tell my mom to 'shut it'. Instead, I do it and look like the bad guy (but secretly get thanked later)
